SHIPPING GUIDE / FCL & LCL
FCL vs LCL shipping from Guangzhou
Compare FCL and LCL shipping from Guangzhou, Foshan and Shunde. Review packed cargo volume, total charges, consolidation and DDP delivery before requesting a quote.
FCL (Full Container Load) uses a dedicated container; LCL (Less than Container Load) shares space with other shippers. Compare packed volume, handling conditions, destination and delivery requirements. A dedicated container can be considered even when the goods do not fill it completely.
Compare the two shipping options
| What to compare | FCL: dedicated container | LCL: shared container |
|---|---|---|
| Container use | A dedicated container for the shipment. | Shared space with other shippers. |
| Quote information | Total cargo volume, container preference and loading address. | Packed dimensions, package count and gross weight for each batch. |
| Handling stages | Check container pickup, loading, trucking and final delivery. | Check warehouse intake, consolidation and destination deconsolidation. |
| Complete charges | Check ocean, origin and destination charges, trucking, clearance and delivery. | Check ocean, warehouse, consolidation, deconsolidation, collection and delivery. |
| Timing | Confirm loading date, export port, sailing and delivery conditions. | Also align cargo consolidation, warehouse cutoffs and destination unpacking. |
Step 1: measure the packed cargo
Volume is length × width × height in metres × package count. For example, four packages measuring 1.00 × 0.80 × 0.60 metres each total 1.92 cubic metres (CBM). Use actual outer carton or pallet dimensions and list gross weight separately. These details support the enquiry; chargeable measurements follow the quote and cargo check.
Step 2: compare costs to the same delivery point
Give both options the same pickup address, cargo details, destination and service scope. An ocean rate alone omits pickup, local port charges, destination handling, clearance or delivery. Ask specifically about destination deconsolidation and collection charges in an LCL quote. Confirm any insurance or special handling separately.
Step 3: check suppliers, packaging and loading
For multiple suppliers in Guangzhou, Foshan, Shunde or other origins, list each address and ready date. For LCL, check packaging against consolidation and additional handling. For FCL, confirm factory loading conditions, container type and trucking. A single volume threshold cannot decide the right option for every route.
Step 4: agree on DDP delivery as well as container use
FCL or LCL determines container use. DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) describes delivery and cost responsibilities. For door delivery, provide the country, city, full address and postcode, then check clearance, duties, taxes, delivery and unloading scope. Chu Kong focuses on Australia, New Zealand and Angola; acceptance and delivery conditions are checked for each shipment.
